HANUKKAH

Then came Hanukkah; it was winter in Jerusalem. Yeshua was walking in the Temple around Solomon’s Colonnade.
- John 10:22 (TLV)

Hanukkah is celebrated on the 25th of Kislev and is a yearly celebration of the rededication of the
Temple after GOD gave Israel the great victory over the Greek army. Although the story of Hanukkah is
not found within the pages of the Bible, Hanukkah is referenced in chapter 10 of the book of John. We
celebrate the victory of assimilation, the gift of a rededicated Temple and the relighting of the Menorah
by eating traditional foods fried in oil and giving gifts to those less fortunate such as children in local
hospitals or orphanages. We also use this time to search our hearts and lives for any roots of
assimilation and to rededicate our lives to GOD.

Dates

Biblical References

“His forces will rise up and profane the fortified Temple; they will stop the daily offering and set up the
abomination of desolation. With smooth words he will seduce those who act wickedly against the
covenant, but the people who know their God will stand strong and prevail.” Daniel 11:31-32 TLV

“Then came Hanukkah; it was winter in Jerusalem. Yeshua was walking in the Temple around Solomon’s
Colonnade. Then the Judean leaders surrounded Him, saying, ‘How long will You hold us in suspense? If
You are the Messiah, tell us outright!’ Yeshua answered them, ‘I told you, but you don’t believe! The
works I do in My Father’s name testify concerning Me. But you don’t believe, because you are not My
sheep. My sheep hear My voice. I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life! They will
never perish, and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is
greater than all. And no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.’”
John 10:22-30 TLV
